Microsoft to Increase R&D Staff in China in 2011

Microsoft plans to increase R&D staff in China by approximately 10% in 2011, according to a February 22, 2011 report by the Wall Street Journal. It is reported that the company's move is aimed for boosting its presence in the Chinese Smartphone market, as well as in areas such as Internet search and cloud computing. Currently, Microsoft hires around 3,000 R&D employees in China, and it is estimated that the company will add another 300 to 400 R&D staff in the country this year. In other Asian countries except China, Microsoft has approximately 600 to 700 R&D staff in Hong Kong, Australia, and Korea, according to the same source.
